Cactus Moon AQHA, shown by Vanessa Gonyea at Roseneath Fair. * Click on link to watch Vanessa demonstrate a Reining Spin * Much like the other disciplines Western Riding starts off with the basics of riding. Following the guidelines of the OEF Western Rider Levels Vanessa has taught and examined various ages and levels of rider and horse combinations. Western disciplines are enjoyed in several different venues. From breed shows geared towards the the line classes of Halter and Showmanship to the Western Pleasure and Trail Classes. Western Pleasure Classes are judged on the ability of the horse and rider to perform several different gaits with little to no seen ques from the rider and the general manners of the horse. Horses are expected to perform these gaits with self carriage and easy way of going. In the Trail Class the horse and rider are expected to execute obstacles like bridges and mailboxes that a horse may have encountered on a trail ride, with form, grace and bravery. Speed events are offered to the rider and horse that enjoys the thrills of high passed action. These classes are also a fun activity for the younger generation in games form. Speed event classes and games events classes include down and back, barrels, pole bending, key hole races and a variety of great games to enjoy. Reining is type of Western Discipline that is considered the Dressage of the Western Ring. Riders perform various patterns off of letters in the ring. This discipline is best known for its spins and sliding stops. To be a reining horse each animal must be at its top performance and obedience. If it for fun, relaxation, pleasure or the high performance of Reining, Vanessa teaches several different breeds and combination of riders as well as training the pleasure horse or the competitive athlete.
