Lauren McGinty and Chestnut Hill Royal-T riding Saddle Seat at the OMHC Schooling Show at Granite Ridge Stables 2008. In Canada, Saddle Seat riders are few and far between, unlike our American neighbours where Saddle Seat is equal to the popularity of the Hunter/Jumper ring. Saddle Seat also known as English Pleasure, is a historical way of riding with traditional training being very similar to Classical Dressage. Saddle Seat can be ridden on any horse and rider combination at the lower levels and we actually encourage that the younger riders experience riding various horses at the beginning of there learning experience. However at the higher levels of competition horses that have the ability to hold a high level of collection and engagement of the hindquarter with large movement are preferred. The most common breeds are the American Saddlebred, Morgan Horse, Arabian Horse and Friesian. Vanessa teaches in the Saddle Seat Equitation style with amateur riders (anyone whom is not considered professional) which includes everything from never been on a horse to working patterns or rail work. Granite Ridge Stables was pleased to hold the first Instruction of Beginners Workshop in Saddle Seat for the Ontario Equestrian Federation in the Spring of 2009. We also held the first Eastern World Cup Saddle Seat Trials in the fall of 2009, in which Vanessa Gonyea acted as the chair person. * We do not use gimmicks as part of our training methods*
